CUMBERLAND - Where Community Flows Freely!

Cumberland & The Coastal Villages (Historic Foothills)
The Vibe: Eclectic creative energy, world-famous oyster beds, character heritage homes, and a slower village rhythm.
The History: Originally established as a rough-and-tumble coal-mining camp named "Union" in 1889 by coal baron Robert Dunsmuir, the city was later incorporated in 1898 and named after Cumberland, England. It quickly boomed into an intensely rich, multi-ethnic crossroads, developing a massive Chinatown, a Japanese settlement, and welcoming a community of African-American miners. Today, the old mines are gone, and the former Chinatown area has been beautifully transformed into a peaceful nature park filled with walking trails and world-renowned mountain biking networks.
Live Music & Featured Dining: The Waverley Hotel & Pub: Located right on Cumberland's charming, historic main street, this legendary independent gastropub draws an active social crowd for dinner and premier live weekend country, rock, and blues bands.
Popular Freshwater Beaches: Comox Lake Park Beach – A local favorite mountain-view freshwater beach offering paddleboard rentals, soft sandy spots, and a public boat launch.
The Historic Vet Spotlight: Cumberland Vet Clinic: A beloved neighborhood clinic highly endorsed by locals for its exceptionally kind staff, custom-designed small animal health care, and fair pricing.
